We'll just see how Daniela does here. She must be shattered after Pattay and Dubai so we don't know how much she'll have recovered. She'll probably be unseeded so makes things a bit tougher and there are a lot of good players in the draw. It's somewhere new for Daniela so hopefully she can put in a run and enjoy herself.

Daniela's got Lauren Davis in the first round. The winner plays either Bacsinszky or Rybarikova and it should be Sharapova in the quarter-final.

Davis beat Daniela at Eastbourne last year, she had a good grass season and a good run in Auckland but she hasn't done a lot since the grass season last year. It's a decent enough draw but Davis has to be respected and there is the question of how much Daniela's recovered from Pattaya & Dubai.

Edit:

The draw's been revised after Begu withdrew so Daniela plays Rybarikova in the first round.

Great to have the Forum back, guys. I only wish I could have read your takes on Daniela's profile in courage win over Barthel in Dubai.
Dani has gotten a pound of flesh from Errani, Ajla and Diyas this year already. Acapulco is a pretty good place to get refreshed, so I will feel that she will be physically ready to face Davis and take a shot at avenging that loss as well. I am just digging the stories on Google about Pattaya and Dubai that use words like dogged and used to coming from behind. So nice that most people have finally figured out the player Daniela really is.

OK, so much for that astute analysis! So now it's a Slovakian showdown. 2 wins here gets her ever closer to top 40. Hoping for the best!

Let's Go, Daniela!

UPDATE

Daniela moves to no.9 seed s Begu withdrew so now Daniela has this draw:

1R vs Rybarikova
2R Davis/Q
QF Sharapova

She has stayed in the same quarter but takes Bacsinzky's seed as she moved to Begu's place.

Slightly easier first rounder than Davis but realistically a QF showing here would be great.

Daniela's never played Rybarikova but she'll know all about Rybarikova as they're both Slovaks and will have trained and worked together on Fed Cup duty. As long as Daniela has recovered from Pattaya and Dubai and is fit she should win easily enough. The concern is that Ryabrikova could have one of her good weeks and play amazingly as she is capable of having good results although her last good run was New Haven last year where she beat Halep. Rybarikova's only won one match this year.

What a fine way for the Forum to return. I'm going nuts trying to get news on this. What I do know is that one of the qualifying finals today was delayed after the second set because of the heat. Maybe it got to Dani during warm-up or something.
The pattern never ends, does it, guys. We get on the verge of writing Daniela off and she goes out and does something fantastic. Which gets us all excited, then she gets sick or hurt or takes a devastating defeat. As my daughters liked to say when they were little, It's Not Fair!

Let's Go, Daniela!

OK guys, here it is, straight from Daniela. "I played a lot of matches in recent weeks and the injury to my foot has returned. It's unfortunate this situation because I am delighted to be here in this great tournament but I think it's smarter to rest my foot. I hope to be back next year."
Considering that there's a widely distributed photo of Dani enjoying herself at the beach with a couple of ATP players several hours before the scheduled match, I'm inclined to believe this won't be a out-for-several-months injury. Of course, she withdrew from Acapulco last year with a knee problem and was out for awhile. Can only hope that Daniela's simply believing she could use a full week off and that it isn't something horrific.

Let's Go, Daniela!

It's disappointing that Daniela wasn't able to play but it's much better to be safe than sorry. Daniela's played a lot of long, demanding matches later and she was absolutely shattered against Halep. She has to listen to her body and rest when she needs to rather than play through pain and injury. Indian Wells is coming up and it's important that she's fit for that.

I just hope this injury does not take away her good form.

I wouldn't be surprised if she withdraws from Monterray too :( which will mean no seeding for Indian Wells.

At least the words "better to be smarter and rest my foot" doesn't sound too serious.

Alex what is your source from the quote. Link please ;)
