Well well, Morita just won the first (7-5)...

A predictable victory for Daniela, even if only one of the two sets were decided by an encouraging scoreline. If it's Chakvetadze who is next, here's yet another opportunity for her to beat a pretty good player.

Looks like she could be playing lucky loser Ayumi Morita in the second round. The Japanese number 2 is leading former world number 5 Anna Chakvetadze 7-5 *2-1.

A scrappy win for Daniela but at least she got the "W"! I think id have given up on her altogther if she had lost that match lol.

NB: Younger sister Ursela beats older sister Agnesika Radwanska!

And poor Sugiama that's the 2nd time she's lost to Bartoli 67(8) in the 3rd :( (Linz last year)

Morita d. Chakvetadze 75 62

2nd round Hantuchova vs Morita

Well both Jankovic and Ivanovic creamed Morita in Fed Cup 61, 60 and 61, 62 respectively, so it should be Daniela's match to win. They met in Bali QF in 2007. Daniela won 62 61. Let's hope for the same.

Well, well, well.. Next opponent is Morita, who won 7-5, 6-2 against Chak.

Oh God, is Daniela the favourite???? LOL.
The draw has opened up, so lets hope Daniela takes advantage. Last time she played Morita was in Bali 07 and she won 6-1, 6-2. I suspect the match will be tougher than that.

Couldn't watch the game as usual. All i have to say is: a win is a win. Hopefully her first serve percentage will improve. A bit stunned that she's not playing Chaka in the next round. I don't think things could turn out any more perfectly for Daniela. Here's to praying she capatilises on it.

Does anyone have a copy of the game? :D

Did you know that even Auckland organizers wanted Peer to withdraw from their tournament? I just read it in Czech Tennis magazine.

Peer received verbal abuse from quite a few fans during her time in Auckland so I suppose the organisers wanted her to withdraw in order to avoid this from happening.

Daniela made harder work of the match than she should have but she got the win and that's what matters. I think she still had a hangover from the Cornet match so she didn't play her normal fluency and rhythm and this is the sort of match she's lost in the past, like Czink at Bali 06. To get the job done is pleasing and Daniela should make the adjustments for the next match. It'll probably do Daniela a bit of good to have faced a little adversity and come through it.

Considering the field here, you'd take Morita as an opponent. She did beat Chakvetadze so she's got to be respected, but it seems that this is a match that highlights Chakvetadze's chronic recent form. As eddy said, Daniela beat her easily the last time they played and Morita was thrashed by the Serbs in Fed Cup and lost in the first round of the Australian Open, so this is a match Daniela should win but Morita beat Wozniak in Auckland and Chakvetadze here so Morita can beat decent players.

Just out of interest, does anyone know who Daniela's coach was?

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.

Good win against Voegele. Not really convincing, but that doesn't matter to me that much at the moment. Only wins and points for the ranking are important.

Morita shouldn't be a problem for Daniela (normally :? )
Hope she can improve tomorrow and then against Safina probably. Would be great to see Daniela playing a top player again.

Certainly a match against Morita would sit better with me than one against Chakvetadze, despute Chakys form of late, but with Daniela playing the way she has been of late it could be another nailbiter, I wouldnt be surprised if we had a similar scoreline as todays, maybe a tight three setter if Daniela fancies hanging around a little bit longer than she should.

Razzano leads Safina 6-4 2-0. Could it be another surprising result
on Daniela’s benefit like Morita did yesterday ?
