It was a wee bit of a surprise to find out that Daniela's entered an ITF in the second week of Roland Garros but it's an opportunity for her to play and get some practice on grass. She can do with the points as the Birmingham points will be coming off soon so she needs to get points wherever she can get them. Daniela can beat pretty much anyone there although there are dangerous players there like Dodin and Radwanska. We'll see what the draw's like,

Grass is her favorite court so let's see. :D

Daniela's got Laura Robson in the first round. Daniela's beaten Robson in all of their previous meetings including both times on grass so that will give Daniela confidence. Robson's had injury problems over the past couple of years and her results this year haven't been great but she did play quite well against Petkovic at Roland Garros so she could be coming into some form. The winner plays either Ashleigh Barty or Urszula Radwanska.

Daniela's the third match on Court 1, not before 1:30 pm. Play starts at 11 am.

Horrid draw...if she gets past Robson, Barty is most likely to be waiting and we all know what happened when they met in Brisbane..

But I guess it's only a 50K tourney so I guess Daniela should just enjoy herself and not put too much pressure on herself...

This was a triumph of the heart and the spirit, guys! :wav: :wav: 3-6 6-3 6-1!
A good old fashioned Danielathon, 2 hr.10 min. plus. There's not a stat that I would cite as a key to the victory. In fact, the stats for both players suck. This was all about perseverance, heart and guts. Robson was up a set and a break at 1-2. At that point, Daniela had dropped serve thrice, and during the next game fell to 1-12 on break points converted. But she did break on what I think was her 4th chance that game. And that's when it all changed. Dani won 11 of the final 13 games, didn't lose serve again, and won all the big points, including 5-7 break chances.
It's her best win in a long, long time, even if Robson is ranked in the 320's. I believe it's her first comeback win this season. Daniela just refuses to give up on herself. Makes my heart swell.
Barty won easily. I get you're worry about her, eddy, but if memory serves correctly, Daniela has never beaten Aga's sister, so it's all good to me.

Hey Alex

Daniela beat Ursula many times before 2012 but lost several times to her since then.

However I think Daniela would have faired better against Ursula on grass than Barty.

But Barty is who Daniela will play so I hope that Daniela can play her best.

I expect a straight sets loss tomorrow but weather isn't looking good...so maybe Daniela can use the inevitable delays to her advantage and regroup if she's losing.

A really good win by Daniela. It's her first win from a set down since Istanbul last July and she was able to turn the match around from a break down in the second. I don't know if the turnaround was because Daniela raised her level or if Robson's level went down but Daniela dominated the end of the match so that should give her a bit of confidence. I hope it didn't take too much out of her.

I'd rather play Barty than Radwanska as Radwanska's had a lot of recent wins against Daniela while Barty's win against Daniela was in Brisbane where Barty had home advantage. Since then Barty took time off to play cricket. She had a very good win yesterday so she'll have momentum and she has to be respected. Daniela also had a long match while Barty's match was quick so Barty will be a fresher although she had to come through qualifying. We'll see what happens tomorrow.

Yeah, I should have looked that up. But the losses in recent years really galled me more than most, so that's what was stuck in my head.

And Billy Barty might mop up the court with Dani tomorrow. But as opposed to the first few months this year, we can carry slivers of hope for Daniela's matches. ;)

Bad, bad, bad, guys. Daniela was on serve 3 all in the first, had at least 3 game points, but was broken and the snowball was rolling down the mountain after that. Billy Barty won 6 straight games. Down 0-3, Dani took a medical time out. In the next game, she got to 30-0 and 40-30 on her serve but dropped it. She then retired. Goodness gracious, will await further info with some trepidation.

This is depressing. Daniela was competitive up to 3-3 and when she lost the seventh game she fell away completely before retiring. The way Daniela collapsed and then retired indicates that something wasn't right with her. Hopefully she's okay and this is just a precaution and it's not anything serious.

If she has any sprains or niggles then this tournament is absolutely not worth exacerbating anything for. I also wonder how much her comeback yesterday took out of her as that was only her second three setter this year so there could also have been a bit of a let down. At the same time Barty's also in form this tournament as she had a strong win against Radwanska yesterday.
I know that Daniela will be playing in Mallorca in a couple of weeks and then she'll probably have to qualify for Wimbledon so she'll want to be fit for these.

Too bad I was right about today...Barty will probably win the whole thing.

At least it was extremely close for the first 7 games. Really hope Daniela's retirement was precautionary.

Where does she play next?
