Daniela can do well here but a lot will depend on how healthy and fit she is and also on the draw she gets. There are a lot of good players here so Daniela can't take anything for granted but I don't think that anyone will want to play Daniela. Daniela's been here preparing so she'll be used to the conditions.

Daniela's the 7th seed yet she's drawn Puig in the first round.

That's a nasty first rounder...hope she can get revenge from Rome last year..

Good luck Daniela!

No doubt, Puig will be a tough out. And we can't be sure about Daniela's health until we see her again. But I did think that Puig was playing hotter than Hades, yet she is 6-6 in singles this year. If Dani can bring recent form into this match, I'll give her a decent shot.
Too bad Azarenka had to play so well this week. It was kind of neat to see Daniela ahead of her in the rankings.

Let's Go, Daniela!

Puig's definitely the toughest first rounder that Daniela could have gotten. She had good runs in Pattaya and Acapulco where she thrashed Errani so she'll be confident plus she beat Daniela last year in Rome so it won't be an easy match. Daniela's always gotten past the first round this year and she's had tougher openers against Errani and Diyas and she won them although Daniela wasn't seed at those tournaments. I can accept a tough draw for Daniela if she's unseeded but it's a little harder to accept when she's seeded. The draw's been made and as long as Daniela's fit then this is a match she can win and it'll be a good test ahead of Indian Wells.

Daniela will play the last match on the main court, not before 9:00 PM Monterey time (10:00 PM here in New York). No one played today due to bad weather, so there are 7 matches on the main court, beginning around 10:00 AM. The match before Dani's, naturally, features Anastasia Alphabet.

Let's Go, Daniela!

OK, after the previous six matches featured four 3-set, 2 hour plus irritations, Daniela's match begins at 11:20 PM Monterrey time. Rarely does this bode well, as we know. And away we go.
1st set
1-0 Daniela holds to 30.
1-1 Puig holds to 30.
2-1 Daniela holds to 30 after being down 0-30.
2-2 Puig holds to 0.
3-2 Daniela holds to 30. (Routine game. Up 30-0, Dani gets ace #1, followed by back-to-back double faults, then hangs on.)
3-3 Puig holds from deuce. Daniela had a BP.
4-3 Daniela holds to 15.
4-4 Puig holds to 15.
5-4 Daniela holds to 30.
5-5 Puig holds to 30.
6-5 Daniela holds to 0.
6-6 Puig holds from deuce. Daniela had one set point.
7-6 Daniela dominates the tiebreak, 7-1!
2nd set
0-1 Puig holds to 0.
0-2 Puig breaks from deuce, converting the first BP she's had.
1-2 Daniela breaks back to 15.
2-2 Daniela holds to 0.
2-3 Puig holds from deuce. Dani held off 3 game points.
3-3 Daniela holds to 30.
3-4 Puig holds from deuce. Daniela had a BP. Match is now over an hour and a half.
3-5 Puig breaks to 30. It's now 1:00 AM in Monterrey.
3-6 Puig holds to 15.
3rd set
0-1 Puig breaks to 30.
0-2 Puig holds to 30.
0-3 Puig breaks from deuce. Dani led 40-15. 2 DF'S, total of 9. She hasn't had an ad the entire night.
1-3 Daniela breaks from deuce. Finally had 3 ads. Puig saved one with her 6 this ace, then double faulted on the 3rd BP. Daniela was down 30-40.
2-3 Daniela holds to 15.
2-4 Puig holds to 0, finishing with her 7th ace.
3-4 Daniela holds to 0.
3-5 Puig holds from deuce. Dani had a BP, big chance missed.
4-5 Daniela holds to 30.
5-5 Daniela breaks at deuce. She saved 4 MP's! !
6-5 Daniela holds to 30. Is this really happening!?
7-5 OMG Daniela breaks from deuce on her 5th MP!!!!
This is the craziest party there could ever be ! How beyond amazing is our gal?

Let's Go, Daniela!

Puig is such a brat

Not a fan of this tournament...especially the scheduling....76 36

Daniela's going to have to really dig deep here...

All momentu with Puig now...0-1 Daniela missing left right and centre

0-3 umm why did Daniela come to Mexico? :s

Also the south frican coach isnt there this week..its that older italian guy....

I take it all back, Mexico is wonderful!!

OMG WHAT AN AMAZING MATCH!!!!!!!!!

76 36 75

DANIELA SAVED 4 MPS when Puig served for the match at 5-4 40-0 and Daniela came back to win.

Incredible, what resilience!

Puig's behaviour got what it deserved, horrid attitude.

Match finished at 2.10am!

An absolutely amazing win by Daniela where she had to dig deep and come right back from the brink to win the match. This was all about fighting a refusing to lose and being able to shift the momentum from being a double break down in the 3rd set and then saving all these match points. It's pretty incredible to win from 40-0 down when the opponent' serving for it. Daniela's awesome.

What a match, what a woman!!! :wav: :wav:

Daniela's not playing today so she can get some rest and she'll really need some. She's playing Ursula Radwanska which will be tough as she's won the last three matches but Daniela's been getting revenge quite a lot over the past few months.

Thanks for the livescores, Alex.

I didn't see the match but what was Puig doing that was so bad, eddy?

Puig was being stroppy after most points she lost even if Daniela hit an amazing shot. And in the first set there was a heated discussion between Puig and umpire where Daniela hit a great serve which Puig only got a frame to but was called out. Daniela challenged and was correct to challenge and the umpire gave point to Daniela. Puig went crazy saying the call came before she hit the ball but was so not true. Thankfully the umpire was having none of it.

I just don't like Puig'ss attitude. She's very immature on court and over dramatic all the time. Funnily enough she was the quietest she had been after the last match point.

Thanks for that, eddy. I've got to say that there are quite a few players that bother me more than Puig. I'm probably feeling a bit more generous towards her because Daniela beat her.

That is the greatest synopsis I have ever seen in the Forum! Full marks, eddy.

Happy to have provided the updates. I believe it's the first time I did it for singles and Daniela won. It truly seemed like she was just about deader than a doornail. But I wasn't giving in because I know Dani wouldn't. Cue up Ringo: It Don't Come Easy!

Seriously?

What a blockhead.

Did she argue with anyone after she double faulted her 3rd match point away?

Daniela has been really gutting it out this year, hasn't she?

So proud of her; hope she can make a deep run here!
