You know, guys, it's tough enough every year to go through the layoff the last 2 months. But, as things sit right now, Daniela has gone 80 days since her last win (10/17/13 in Moscow). That's a long time. In fact, it's TOO LONG!!!!!!! We need a dose of happiness, young lady! Come through in doubles today and end this thing! She's given us a lot of cheer over the years when we think we can't take much more....hoping today's the day for that!

Let's Go, Daniela!

They won! 10-1 in the championship tiebreak

Any win is a good win at the moment so that's fantastic!

Was thinking Daniela played some good tennis in Moscow at the end of last year, not sure why she didn't try the Slovak coach on a more permanent basis...

That was a battling, fighting win. Daniela served badly in the first set and got broken twice but she was able to pick up her level in the second set and she and Arantxa really should have won it a lot more easily than they did because they were 1/9 on BPs and clinched it on their fifth set. The tiebreak was tough and they had 2 set points saved but clinched it on their third before racing through the supertiebreak. I think that getting an ugly, battling win like this, even though it's only in doubles, will give Daniela a bit of confidence and a run her would give her a boost before the Australian Open.

I think when it comes to coaches Daniela seems to think that the grass is greener in the other field. She was doing well with Passos & especially with Liptak and she got rid of them. I think Daniela should persevere with Sanchez for the time being.

Yeah!! :P
Your scoreboard wasn't the only thing going crazy, Chungwit. This was your absolute classic Daniela Maalox Special! From the uncountable double faults to being broke twice in the 1st set to dropping the set to people so unknown that the WTA didn't even have a picture of one of them (!) to missing 2 chances to break in the 2nd to losing the 4-all game and allowing the opponents to serve for the match to failing on 5 set points……so naturally, Dani and Arantxa turn the super tiebreak into a blowout. How could it end any other way? Take it and run! No more Around the Anguish in 80 Days! :o

I would wonder, however, how well this high wire act will work against the next opponents, Kops-Jones and Spears. We'll see!

Let's Go, Daniela!

And we'll see today. Daniela doubles on Court 8, the last of 4 scheduled matches.

Kops and Spears are really pissing me off now. That's the 3rd time Daniela has lost to them now..according to twitter Daniela missed an easy volley put away match point down to lose. Apparently she screamed in frustration. Sounds like she really wanted to win today.:(

At least gives Daniela plenty of time to practice in Melbourne.

Yeah, looks like a very frustrating match. Dani and Arantxa only converted 3/11 BPs,whereas Kop-Jones/Spears were a perfect 4/4.

Dani's netplay needs serious work. There were a couple of brutal misses in her singles match. :(

This is so disappointing. Daniela & Arantxa had a good chance to beat one of the top teams but couldn't take their chances. Still for a scratch team to go all the way against a good established team isn't bad but lost opportunities and errors really cost Daniela & Arantxa. I think that's why Daniela was so frustrated, to have played well and had a good chance to win a competitive match but not being able to take it. Daniela smashed her racquet after losing to the chemical sisters in Doha last year.

I blame Spongebob Squarepants, he's a distraction.

Daniela's volleying's a bit awry at the moment and while she can practice in Melbourne to put it right but it would be a lot better if she had the chance to practice her volleys in match conditions in Sydney.
Hopefully Daniela can put in good runs in Melbourne. It would have been nice if Daniela had played with Lisa Raymond before the Australian Open, but they played together last year so the transition should be smooth.

I was quite pleased with this, actually. I figured this would be a one-sided rout, being that this was their 2nd match together ever and facing the experienced team, and yet Dani and Aranxta battled through much adversity (0-5 on deciding points; up a break twice in second set only to give it back, then after getting up a break again they missed on 5 set points before nailing the set down) and were at 7-7 in the tiebreak. I'm with you in a growing disdain for Kops-Jones and Spears. Pity, as I have some nasty nicknames I want to hang on them, but Daniela and her partner of the week have to beat them before I can break them out. The real pisser was when Dani and Hingis were shredding them in Carlsbad and got too giggly. That was their 2nd match together, and who knows how they might have clicked with that kind of win under their belts.

Let us recall that prior to New York last year, Daniela was on a 3 match losing streak, including two straight one and dones in Cincinnati and New Haven. Normally this isn't something I'd ever want for her, but this time, it's just fine if history repeats itself. ;)

Let's Go, Daniela!
