yeah, don't blame the jacket on Roger, it's all Nike and promotion. Sampras, Borg etc were there just in case as well. They were just prepared for the big achievement to happen. I am sure Roger had to jackets on his chair. One for the win and one for a loss.

I agree that Roddick played really well and I thought he was going to win. Roger had his serve but his ground strokes were off. He often hit the ball long. I rooted for Roger, I really like him, but I felt so badly for Andy - he played well, and the disappointment was so obvious. I wouldn't have been too sad had Andy won. He was funny in his speech when he address Sampras. Roger tried his best to not sound too thrilled about all the records and winning as he has a lot of sympathy (I am sure) for Andy. Roger tried last year to be the loser of an epic final and also lost the Aus Open in 5 sets, so he knows the pain.

I've only just finished watching the mens final cause I had family commitments and had to watch it on the BBC iPlayer.

Im delighted for Federer who deserves his place in history for what he has done in the game in such a short space of time. On the flip side I am gutted for Andy who played out of his skin and probably, on the face of it, was the better player on the day and played one of the best matches I have ever seen from him but alas it wasnt to be.

Andy is one of the nicest guys on the tour and I always enjoy it when he comes over to England for the grass court season cause I get to hear a lot more from him than I would normally with interviews with the BBC and what not, I really really hope that he does win Wimbledon one day, or at the very least another grand slam title to go with his sole US Open victory in 2003, and if it is any consolation he was part of history, history which may never be remade and was part of an absolute epic of a match.

No on forced Roger to wear the jacket. He has alot of say in what he wears, and if he had told Nike he didn't want to wear the jacket I'm sure there wouldn't have been alot that they could have done about it, particularly since he had already worn shorts, shirts, trousers, a waistcoat and a jacket!

Roddick certainly has the potential to take the world number 4 spot within the next 6-12 months if he continues to produce solid results. Djokovic hasn't been playing too well in the majors and I can't see him getting to another grand slam final any time soon. Roddick on the other hand could go far at the US Open, and has plenty of points to potentially gain at the World Tour Finals. In contrast, Djokovic is the defending champion and consequently has lots of points to defend.

What I think will be most interesting over the coming month is to see how Del Potro copes with defending the immense amount of points (1,700) gained over the weeks in which he won four straight titles (Stuttgart, Kitzbuhel, Los Angeles and Washington) last year.

great final,roddick played amazingly well.
Im delighted for Federer who deserves his place in history for what he has done in the game in such a short space of time. absolutely i agree with you scott.before 1-2 years ago i was negative for roddick, but this year i have changed my opinion about him

points to defend until and usopen

1.nadal 3150(low option 45)
2.murray 2850(low option 250)
3.federer 2360(0)
4.djokovic 2260(150)
5.del potro 2200(250)
6.roddick 890(110)

and yes if roddick continues this solid form will move up a lot

What I think will be most interesting over the coming month is to see how Del Potro copes with defending the immense amount of points (1,700) gained over the weeks in which he won four straight titles (Stuttgart, Kitzbuhel, Los Angeles and Washington) last year.

actually an average damage as his low option is high and didnt participated last year in montreal and cincinati masters (due his low rank).
foreshadows a really interesting hot usa summer season.
how nadal's form will be after his injury
federer awaits his child during summer
i am expecting roddick more hungry and perfoming very well in front of his country crowd
djokovic is mystery,i am expecting delpotro to claim his first master in usa
we shall see, interesting two months are coming

Marat Safin lost to Melzer in his last slam match, this is how I'd like to remember him:

The best performance in a GS final that I can remember. Marat must have hit at least 20 passing winners past Sampras that day, including some insane FH winners of Petes first serve.

I'm gonna miss the big guy.

Did anyone else hear Roger Federer might not enter the 2010 Australian Open? I woke up early enough for Breakfast at the Open and heard the commentators saying he might miss it to spend more time with his new family. That sounds fine to me. He doesn't have anything else to prove right now. I'd like to see Roger give Andy Roddick a break and let him win another major.

Del Potro is a terrible match-up for Nadal in general, given that he still ain't in top form and this is his worst surface it was an expected loss.
Federer will win 6th in a row today, closing out a GS match against him is extremely tough. When in troubles he either comes up with some "Jesus" shots or his opponent tries to win points over his forehand which still baffles me.
