Serena should be fined for not trying enough then, just like Davydenko last year.
Her post-match interview was plainly disgusting, pretty much like always.

it is just so typical Serena. Thinking that winning 3 matches (2 long ones) was enough practice. She tried to played the first set against Dementieva but lost anyways and she totally tanked the second set. I think tanking is really disgusting. I couldn't care less about what is being said in post-match conferences, but people pay money to watch the matches. A lot of this people are not reading the post-match interviews in GM, they are not the crazy fans as we are, but merely tennis fans.

Kimiko Date's qualified for the Australian Open at 38 after more than a decade retired. I just think that is just amazing and so cool that she can come back and still have it. :D

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.

random. does anyone know anything about golovin? where is she!

still injured, she has some chronic back injury or back pain and it is keeping her away from getting enough practice.

From golovin-attitude:
Following several worrying rumors telling that Tatiana would retire soon, we decided to join her and ask her about her current feelings. Tati, who had finally started training again with Courteau a couple of weeks ago, and who thought that the injury was gone for good, was struck again. She might have an Ankylosing spondylitis, which is basically a chronic degenerative inflammatory arthritis. (Check the wikipedia page for more informations.) It would apparently not be possible to heal this disease, but it could go away sometimes. According to the doctors, a sportsman who would have this disease’s career would be filled with ups and downs.

Nonetheless, Tati stays hopeful and keeps believing. In a mail she sent us earlier, she told us that "unfortunately, I’m still suffering from my back, so I have to stop again, I can’t tell you more. It is pretty tough but I am ok and I am still optimistic."

Translation from l'equipe:
I still have pain in my back, I don’t practice, but I am still totally hopeful to play again soon. It will be in a few weeks, months or even in one year, but my career is not over. We have more or less found a solution as far as my back is concerned ; so now, I have to be patient.

On another note: Radwanska out of Aus Open :ugeek: - didn't see that coming

Thanks Christina! Its sad. she has a lot of potential.

and sad about radwanska too!
I think the bondarenkos switched games, alona is losing while kateryna won.

I really do not know how the players are handling the heat! its 140 degrees f. on court!! if they stand in one place for too long their shoes might become welded into the court

Czech player Jan Hernych after losing his match yesterday in 5 sets told our media that he never experienced a heat like that. He had nausea and even vomited after the match. He didn't say anything about his shoes though.

that's serious! i think they should have put the heat rule into effect and stop the matches. It totaly cooled down a couple hours later. It's lucky no one got really ill from the heat.

btw, i just made the shoe thing up. lol

I must say that I was shocked with Venus defeat in the 2nd round of the AO but i was quite .. happy , maybe !
Why ? Well , in one sports newspaper here in Portugal came out an article saying "Venus is the favourite to win the AO due to her recent form" and I don't think that they know any player besides Williams , Sharapova and Ivanovic .. Many times , when all they say is the results appears like "D.Hantuchova (RUS)" :x

Streaking incident on day 5 of Australian Open 2009:

During the doubles match between the Williams sisters and Morita and Muller. The streaker was out on the court for nearly 45 seconds, suggesting security is not as tight as it should be.

See video entitled "Streaking Scare":
