Next up in the round robin stage for Serena is elder sister Venus Williams (H2H, S.Williams 9 - 8 V.Williams). 06/11/2008 - A tough loss for Serena today, losing from a set-up to sister Venus. After a tight first set, Serena wilted and lost 12 of the last 13 games. She now needs to beat Dementieva (who defeated Safina in straight sets) in order to progress to the semi-final stage of the competition (H2H, Williams 4 - 2 Dementieva). Although Serena leads the head-to-head, their last two encounters have been won by Dementieva, so it should be a tight match, with alot at stake. 07/11/2008 - Serena has withdrawn from the tournament citing a stomach injury. The former-world number 1 has been replaced by the second alternate; Nadia Petrova, who will now play Elena Dementieva in the final match of the Maroon group. |
