A great week so far for Anne, reaching the second WTA Tour semi-final of her career. Only twice in the last 17 years has a British woman reached a WTA Tour semi-final, and both of those times its been Anne (in Kolkata 2007, and now in Auckland 2009).
She seems to be playing well, and with lots of confidence which is great to see from a British woman.
She'll be playing on the WTA tour next week aswell (in Hobart) and will then play the first Australian Open of her career (gaining direct entry for the first time).
Up next for Anne in Auckland is Elena Vesnina, who is having a surprisingly good week, having defeated the number 6 seed Nicole Vaidisova in the second round, and then the number 2 seed Caroline Wozniacki in the quarter-finals. Anne and Elena have never met before, and both are playing well enough to reach the final, so we will just have to wait and see what happens. Hopefully we will see Anne reaching her first WTA tour final, and potentially playing a re-match of her 2008 US Open third round, against Elena Dementieva, the top seed in Auckland this week.

Anne also has her own official website now:

Great news for Melanie South, currently ranked 110 in the world, not only has she reached the 2nd round in Sydney, although somewhat fortunately, she has also earned a place, by right, in the main draw of the Australian Open for the first time in her career, after Maria Sharapova withdrew with a shoulder injury. It will be the first time that two british women have earned direct entry into a Grand Slam since the US Open in 1993. South will join Anne Keothavong who will also be playing her first Australian Open as a direct entry.
