Daniela drew Makarova in Cincinnati. If she wins, it's the hated queen of sportsmanship Kerber!

Well I guess Makarova isn't too bad a first rounder considering the depth of the draw although Makarova is currently in the form of her life making at least semifinals of Montreal. Perhaps she'll be tired when she faces Daniela probably on Tuesday.

As for the rest of the draw...well let's just hope Daniela can make 2nd round...but I think Daniela wil need a quarter-final to get a seeding for US Open...

It's not an easy draw but then again there wasn't much chance that Daniela would get one.

Makarova won the last match in the Fed Cup in Moscow but a big factor in that was Makarova's lengthy timeout that disrupted Daniela's momentum and the home support. Daniela beat her in Tokyo in 2012 and Daniela's form at the time was terrible although that was when she replaced Pistolesi with Nicolas. Daniela also thrashed Makarova in Paris indoors in 2009.

Makarova's one of these players that I always feel that Daniela will do well against, although like eddy said, she's having a good run in Montreal and her form this year has been better than Daniela's. It's an opportunity for Daniela to get a good win and go on a run.

After a 3 setter over Coco yesterday, Makarova lost tonight to Aga 7-6 7-6. Please cut Daniela a rare break and schedule this match first thing Monday and we can hope tiredness will become a factor.

Let's Go, Daniela!

Daniela's playing doubles with Zahlavova Strycova this week. They start against Hradecka & Krajicek with the winners playing Errani/Vinci.

Zahlavova Strycova's a pretty decent doubles player so we'll see how Daniela does with her although the draw is quite tough.

What a random partnership with Strycova..not of fan of Barabara at all especially for the failed drugs test a few years ago but I guess forgive and forget and we'll see how this partnership goes...

I'd say there are far more players than just Zahlavova Strycova that take PEDs. Marin Cilic failed a drug test and he explained his absence by saying he had a knee injury and the only reason we found out he'd failed a drug test was because it was leaked to the Croatian media. I wonder how many other "injuries" were really suspensions or waits for the tribunal.

Cyclists that were clients of Dr Fuentes, the notorious blood doping doctor, such as Alberto Contador, were banned. There were tennis players among his clients yet there seems to have been zero effort by the tennis authorities to do anything about it. Mind you there were a lot of footballers listed as being clients also and nothing has happened on that front.
Likewise, baseball banned the players who went to the Biogenesis clinic in Florida, which also had tennis players as clients, but what have the tennis authorities done to find out who these players are. We know that Dr Del Moral, Lance Armstrong's doctor, worked with players at TenisVal, Errani admitted working with him but there have been no consequences there.

Mark Cavendish has said that drug testing in tennis is ridiculously lax compared with cycling and the reason that so many cyclists fail tests is that cycling tests are rigorous and designed to catch users while testing in tennis is basically PR.

Well, Daniela is first match up on Court 7 at 11 AM Cincinnati time. Of course, it's doubles. Of course, that gives Makarova time to settle in. Good gosh. I swear, the next thing that goes right for Daniela on tour in 2014 will be the first.

If allowed to count Fed Cup and WTT, Strycova is Daniela's 8th doubles partner this year. If we assume that a certain notable percentage of the tour players use PED's, since Dani changes doubles partners as often as she changes gowns, by the law of averages she's bound to play with a roider sooner or later!

Let's Go, Daniela!

A really good easy win in doubles and it could have been an even more convincing win. Hradecka's won slams in doubles and Krajicek is solid so to beat players as good as them so easily is very encouraging as I can't remember the last time Daniela won a doubles match as easily as this. If Zahlavova Strycova is Daniela's partner long term then I think it'll be a good team that can do well. The next round will be very difficult and will be a good gauge of how well Daniela and Zahlavova Strycova can do.

Guys, any truth to the rumor that right after the match, Krajicek turned to Hradecka and said:
Luuuuucieeee, you've got some 'SPLAININ' to do!
Strangely, the stats aren't that great, except the pts. won on 1st serve and the 6-11 break points. Yet it was almost a double bagel, and it's always joyous when there's Dani dominance. And as eddy said, it was quick and not taxing, which pretty well erases the rest factor for tomorrow. Nice one, ladies. Let's see if they can give our favorite Italians trouble.

Let's Go, Daniela!

Might have been with Hingis in what I like to call the T-shirt match! :)

Since when does Daniela get her match in before a rain delay!?
