Daniela posted on FB an hour ago a photo from Brisbane. I somehow had not seen your post from the 17th, Benji. Thanks much for the info. We will soon, then, and at long last, be able to root her on again! :D

Wow, Daniela is not going to Indian Wells. I thought she'd go for a wild card there for sure. It would be hard to fathom IW tournament organizers not giving her one. Maybe I'm wrong.

Had never heard of the WTA 125K series before. Research shows that it's a short series of tourneys a cut below an International but above the ITF (which I can't see Daniela stooping that far down). One of last year's 125K tourneys was won by Jankovic, and it counted as a career title, with the wins officially counting on her career record, and she gained 280 points.
So I guess Daniela has found somewhat of a safety net to allow her to play more.

I think what it does show Alex is that Daniela doesn't anticipate having a deep run at Indian Wells, she'll either have to qualify or get a wildcard to get in and her recent record there has been terrible. The field in San Antonio is actually pretty decent and a lot of the players there are in the Indian Wells main draw so it's not going to be easy pickings for Daniela. At the same time she gets to play and go somewhere different.

Now isn't this so Daniellian!? Which WC will she take and which one will she turn down? Or, if she's one and done at IW, will she take both? Stay tuned for the next edition of the Daniela Dilemma!

Wow that really is very kind of Indian Wells.

I didn't expect that at all. I guess we pray for a miracle.

A deep run here would solve all her problems. In tennis all you need is one amazing tournament a year. It's just gotta be Indian Wells...

Post subject:  Re: What Does Daniela Play Next?

I always felt that Daniela was likely to get a wildcard for Indian Wells as she's a two-time champion. I don't think she'll get any wildcards for any of the other Premiers and chances are she'll have to qualify for pretty much everything on the main tour after this. She may get a wildcard for some Internationals but Daniela's will have to play a lot of qualifying or go down to ITFs to get her ranking up.

A lot of the San Antonio players are in the Indian Wells main draw too so anyone that goes deep into Indian Wells will withdraw from San Antonio. Lets hope that Daniela doesn't play San Antonio because she's still playing at Indian Wells.

Post subject:  Re: What Does Daniela Play Next?

I keep wondering, what took the organizers at Indian Wells so long? No matter how lengthy her ongoing slump has been, Daniela has to still be popular there and will be at least to some extent a drawing card. It seemed logical all along that she'd get a wild card. Oh well, better late than not. And, since Dani has not done well at IW for several years and not anywhere for 9 months, it would make perfect sense that she'll suddenly find it and go on a run. Hey, she's done just that so many times! Fingers crossed. :P
