Daniela is NOT on the entry list for either Ponte Vedra Beach or Charleston, so she is having a long rest now.
She is on the official lists for Stuttgart, Rome, and Madrid. Her ranking though was too low to enter Stuttgart directly (damn) but she is in MD because she is one of the two marquee players.
I just learned that she is one of the marquee players. There's some rules that apply to these players, just don't remember the rules as I didn't know who the WTA had chosen and therefore didn't care about the rules

She could still get a late entry, I would imagine. I would strongly recommend playing Ponte Vedra Beach; as the old saying goes if you get thrown off a horse, you gotta get right back on. Besides if she is still planning on working with Etcheberry in Orlando, she's about a two hour drive from there anyway.

with the new rules, I am not sure she can get a late entry into MD. Remember both Schiavone (when she was ranked in the twenties) and Szavay has played qualifying this year. Had Szavay entered on time she would have been seeded 3 I think in Monterrey (or Alcapulco, one of those MM tournament) but she entered late and was in qualifying.
Daniela can still though hope for a WC, and if the tournament is an Octagon-tournament it increases her chances of a WC. Neither PVB or Charleston have strong fields, so it would be wise to ask for a WC.

In this article ( ), they say that Daniela wanted to play in Barcelona. She asked for a wild card but the direction of the tournament said no because Daniela asked for 50 000 $ just to be there.

I don't know if she really won't play in Barcelona since, some days ago, I read an interview of the tournament's director, Arantxa Sánchez Vicario, who sayed that Daniela would play in Barcelona. We'll see.

The article says it's something very common when a player asks for much money just to be present in a tournament (although I don't like that), but not when this player is only 42nd in the WTA ranking...

Fan de Daniela en toutes circonstances.

I hope this article is not true - i just can't imagine Daniela asking for ridicously amounts of money just to make an appearance at a tournament - well that's not the Daniela that's in my head...

Yes , they can .. Players like Sharapova usually ask for money to play in some "minor" tourneaments , but I don't see Daniela asking for $50000 just to play in Barcelona .
The winner of the tournament will win less than that , it's ridiculous .

I don't think so. Serena never listed Marbella on her official site whereas the Marbella site was quick to include her and raise the total of the prize money. My guess is that it was more the WTA and Marbella that wanted Serena and therefore paid her a lot of money. I think Serena would have prefered to have skipped Marbella as it was geographically a long way from Miami and Charleston and also she was injured in the final and now she has pulled out of Charleston.

Did Daniela also say that Barcelona had won the Nigerian lottery and that if they paid the administration fee and gave her their bank account details she'd wire them the money?

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.

After Fed Cup Daniela will play WTA clay tournaments in Stuttgart, Rome and Madrid. She told it to the slovak media.

In "2007 PTT Bangkok Open" PRIZE MONEY:US$200,000
the tournament's director to pay for apparance fee amount US$100,000 to Venus Williams and give her the best spa.

If you be a top player u can asking for everything.

yes it's very ridiculous. :dunno:

Appearance fee for top players is higher than what they can earn by winning a couple of rounds. Dubai for example offers ridiculous sums.
As for Daniela, I could understand her asking for 50k if she was ranked in top 15, but since she is somewhere in 40's I don't. At the same time I would like to hear the whole story behind this.

also. no need to compare Venus and Danka. Venus will get a way with asking way more than Danka

Tennis players, of course, are all ridiculously fortunate in that they get paid very good to great sums of money to merely play a sport.
That being said, they have to pay many of their road expenses plus coaching and fitness expenses. They have essentially zero guaranteed money. For comparison, there are baseball players who will make over $10 million per year and will sit on the bench (Juan Pierre, Gary Matthews Jr.). Compared to other athletes, their careers are short. Daniela is looking at only 1-2 more years of her prime and only a couple more beyond that as a viable singles player. I suppose she could continue beyond as a doubles specialist. I obviously cannot say for sure, but I imagine she lost substantial sums of money over the past year or so with the collapse of the global equity markets. Daniela, of course, is used to living a comfortable lifestyle. So, I cannot fault her or anyone else for trying to make as much money as they can when they can. Frankly, who would do differently if in the same situation? Daniela also has repeatedly stated that she's grateful for the chance to play tennis for a living, so she's not taking this for granted.

P.S. I have no idea if the story is accurate. I'm skeptical of the number, but not the idea that Daniela would want an appearance fee.

I don't want to believe in that but maybe Daniela will say something about these "rumors"
