WTA and tournaments often place players on entry lists automatically - latest example being that they placed Daniela on the Montreal entry list while she didn't have any intention to play there. You can see there's also Dementieva and Chakvetadze on the Lux list whom I can't imagine playing a Tier III while there is a tier II (I wonder if Chakvetadze is allowed to play a Tier III if there is a Tier II being played the very same week considering she must be quite high on the gold exempt list). All in all this doesn't mean much.

Im sure Daniela would much prefer to defend her title in Linz than play a tier III in Luxembourg. Either way shes gonna lose ton's of points being that those tournaments are in the same week this year and she was a finalist and a winner last year.

The Luxembourg points actually come off sooner than that. It would be one calendar year to the date of last year's tournament which took place earlier in the year than it does this year.

Actually, I honestly think Daniela takes the rest of the year as time to regain her form because she nearly has no chance to defend nearly 800 points until the end of the year. I think that is why she enters so many tournaments. If she manages somehow to stay in the top 16, that is really good for the seed at AO next year, where she has a SF to defend.

I still think this is WTA's doing. Can't imagine Daniela not defending her title.

^^ I know it sounds unlikely that she would withdraw from Lux and then enter Linz. But not defending the title is imo just as much unlikely. I don't know, my point is that I don't believe Dementieva and Chakvetadze would prefer playing Lux over Linz, nor I think Daniela would. But perhaps, as you say, they have to meet the criteria of playing some Tier III. I don't have anything against playing Luxembourg and not defending Linz, it's just that it seems odd, especially considering that Daniela said she was looking forward to be defending the Linz title and that it was one the tournaments she liked the most.

She is (unfortunately for me ) not on Zurich Entry List. I think that's a bit strange. She always played Zurich and i don't think she does this just because it's not Tier 1 anymore. I think it would have been much better to skip Moscow (has a very strong Entry List and the crowd there is like in paris) and to play Zurich.
