Seeing the pictures of Daniela already practicing in Madrid got me thinking (Danger Alert!).
When I first joined the Forum, some of the prevailing opinions were "why doesn't Dani stop playing Fed Cup", "why does she keep playing doubles", "why doesn't she cut back her schedule somewhat" and, in weeks where there are 2 tourneys,
"why doesn't she play in (lesser tourney) rather than (tougher tourney) and gain some wins/points/confidence". I would take her side. She loves her country, she has fun playing doubles, she knows her body, she prefers to always go up against the best opponents.
OK. I still say that Daniela loves her country, enjoys doubles, knows her body and enjoys being challenged by the top players. However, I imagine you're seeing what I am since Dani hired Lundgren. It appears that at long last, she's listening to you guys! Look at what she has done after Charleston.
In previous years, Daniela would without doubt have found her way to Canada for the relegation matches. Then she would have hopped the red eye across the pond over 6 times zones and played 2 days later in Stuttgart (and we'd take odds on whether, or in what set, she would have retired with dizzy spells). Then it would have been on to Portugal, then Madrid. Lest I forget, she would have played doubles in all 3 tourneys, probably with 3 different partners.
Instead.....no Fed Cup, no doubles, Marrakech instead of Stuttgart, and this week off, getting to Madrid to prepare early.
And, in her last 2 events, a quarter and a semi. It ain't Daniellian, but it's working! Mea Culpa, guys. I stand corrected.

Let's Go, Daniela!

With Vesnina and Kuznetsova having a good week in Portugal, Daniela's going to need two good showings in Madrid and Rome to guarantee a Roland Garros seeding. We don't her going into the French Open unseeded and having to face the likes of Jankovic in round 1 again. I was at the first round of the french last year and Daniela was playing at least 3rd round standard of tennis in that match so we really need some good results in the next two weeks.

Tennis: Dani back for more at Aegon Classic
May 21, 2014 10:14 By Brian Dick
Reigning champion Daniela Hantuchova has confirmed her intention to defend her title at next month’s Aegon Classic.

Reigning champion Daniela Hantuchova has confirmed her intention to defend her title at next month’s Aegon Classic.

The Slovak has been announced on a star-studded entry list at Edgbaston Priory that also includes former world No.1s Jelena Jankovic and Ana Ivanovic.

The Serbian pair are just two of six top-20 ranked players, a huge improvement on last year’s field which had none of the world’s elite.

Grand Slam winners Sam Stosur, of Australia, and Italy’s Francesca Schiavone will play and there are also a couple of former winners with Hantuchova, Sabine Lisicki and Magdalena Rybarikova all back to try to lift the Maud Watson trophy for the second time.

Indeed, this is the highest quality field in the tournament’s history and while it still lacks one of the global superstars like Serena Williams or Maria Sharapova, there are still several wild cards to be handed out.

Some of those will go to British challengers, of which there are none in the 43 confirmed names, which with Laura Robson out with a wrist injury could mean Heather Watson and Jo Konta could be given passage into the main draw.

That draw, the first since the tournament has been upgraded to Premier status, contains half of the world’s top 50, including rising stars like Sloane Stephens and Eugenie Bouchard, 21 and 20-year-olds who have both reached the semi-final at majors.

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.

JANKOVIC SIGNS UP FOR TIANJIN OPEN
Jelena Jankovic, Daniela Hantuchova, Martina Hingis and Peng Shuai are all confirmed for the inaugural Tianjin Open.
Published July 10, 2014 12:12

TIANJIN, China - Former World No.1 Jelena Jankovic has been announced as the headline act at this October's inaugural Tianjin Open.

The International event is the latest addition to the WTA's Asian swing and will also be graced by Daniela Hantuchova, Martina Hingis, Peng Shuai and Zhang Shuai.

After a few years in the tennis wilderness, Jankovic returned with a bang last year, breaking back into the Top 10 thanks to a string of impressive showings. The Serbian has carried this form into 2014, finishing runner-up in Bogotá and reaching the semifinals in Brisbane, Doha, Stuttgart and Rome.

"I'm really looking forward to playing in Tianjin this year," Jankovic said. "It's always exciting when a new tournament is added to the calendar because it means we get to visit somewhere different.

"I always love going to China and have had a lot of success there in the past so it will be great to visit a new city. I believe Tianjin is ready for us."

The tournament, which will be held at Tianjin International Tennis Center from October 6-12, is the sixth and final stop-off in China on the WTA calendar, following on from the China Open, in Beijing.

"The tournament is delighted to welcome such a stellar playing field to the city of Tianjin," Tournament Director Tony Cho said. "With Jelena as our Top 10 player we have secured someone who is not only one of the best players on the planet, but who also very popular with the Chinese fans.

"Zhang Shuai has had great success of late and will no doubt look forward to playing in front of her home-crowd, while Peng Shuai continues her strong play having recently won the doubles title at Roland Garros and is currently part of the No. 1 doubles team in the world. Hantuchova and Hingis are both outstanding names in women's tennis and also have a very large following of fans in China."

STANFORD, Calif. () – Samantha Stosur, Daniela Hantuchova and Garbine Muguruza have all officially entered to compete in the 2014 Bank of the West Classic. The addition reinforces an already dominant player field which includes World No. 1 and 17-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams, World No. 3 and 2012 Wimbledon finalist Agnieska Radwanska along with defending Bank of the West Classic champion, Australian Open finalist and World No. 10 Dominika Cibulkova.

Hantuchova will compete at in Stanford for the tenth time and will look to become a Bank of the West champion for the first time in her 15-year career. The Slovakian is a former Top 5 player and has six WTA titles under her belt, including two at Indian Wells (2007, 2002).

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.

Daniela's FB page is a hot mess these days. She rarely has anything under her name except for promos of the Diva Water. And the rest of it is overrun by porn and ugly comments from the degenerate gamblers after a loss. Yet, the fool that I am, I continue to post there. Would like to know what you guys think of a suggestion I put up there recently. I really feel that Daniela, after completing her remaining slate this year, should drydock all her tennis equipment and not even look at a ball or a racket for around a month. Go home to Monaco or Brataslava, or spend time in a city/resort she really loves, like Rome or San Diego. Of course I would expect her to stay in training to keep in tip-top shape, but it just looks like she could use a long period of head clearing and battery recharging. Dani won't do it, I know, and she very likely won't be reading my suggestion (or she'll pull a back muscle from doubling over in laughter ). But to me it has merit. What do you guys think?

Let's Go, Daniela!

I think Daniela should rest after her last tournament of the year which will probably be Luxembourg or Moscow and not do the silly tour of Asia afterwards...then she should give next year everything she has...I really hope Daniela will give us plenty of warning when she decides to retire. I would hate for it to come out of the blue.

I only follow her twitter page Alex.. I doubt she monitors her facebook anymore after all the rubbish that gets put on there (apart from yours of course)

Funny how you wrote that at about the same time that Li Na announced her retirement.

I think Daniela will keep going for a couple of years longer as she really enjoys playing, it's her passion and she'll want to play at the Rio Olympics. She plays doubles a lot and doubles players keep going longer than singles players. It's got to be so tough on her that she just isn't competitive with top players and she's had a lot of defeats to some really average players this year. Daniela's very resilient and positive but all the losses this year will have taken a toll.
It's Daniela's career and her life so she can do what she wants and I think she'll want to be involved in tennis, I think she'll be playing for a bit longer, she'll play exhibitions and she can go on and do media work - she was excellent when she commentated at the Australian Open.

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.

Thank you for your wisdom Chungwit. It is Daniela's life and she loves what she is doing and even though her rankings aren't where we would like them I am highly entertained to watch her career and watch her play.

When the time comes she would be a great media person for tennis.

Tomorrow is two months from Auckland. Rooting for Dani to not just turn the page on 2014, but to rip the dulgurned thing right out of the book and start a nice comeback season.

Am I the only one here who, when the 70's hit Fox On The Run by Sweet comes on the radio, thinks about Daniela? :o

Let's Go, Daniela!
