Dani looks so poorly there.

Obviously the interview was done not long after she went down with the dreaded Indian Wells flu. :|

The Tennis Space
Hantuchova talks Mozart, Adele and golf
Tuesday, 8 May 2012

Daniela Hantuchova tells The Tennis Space how she relaxes away from tennis.

By playing the piano
“I went to a musical school for eight years where most of the stuff I had to play was classical piano – a lot of things from Beethoven, Mozart and Bach. At the moment I’m into Adele’s song, Someone Like You, which I’m trying to learn. I love playing the piano as it takes my mind away from everything. It’s a great way for me to relax.”

On the golf course
“I love playing golf. It’s coming along quite well, thanks to my very good friend Sergio Garcia, who has given me great tips to improve my game. That has helped and I’m playing much better now, thanks to him. I love getting away from tennis and playing nine holes from time to time. Obviously I don’t have enough time to have a proper handicap, but I got a hole in one once in Perth, when I was there for the Hopman Cup. That was awesome.”

Daniela Hantuchova on beating Martina Hingis, her love for tennis and partying with Roger Federer
May 10, 2012 By Romana Cvitkovic

Daniela Hantuchova is considered by many to be a veteran of the women’s WTA Tour in tennis. But at only 29 years old, the striking Slovakian beauty still has years left of passion for the sport. Looking chic and casual, Dani took time out of her schedule during a recent stop in Germany to answer a few questions from Tennis Grandstand. She shared her most memorable moment on court where she defeated Martina Hingis, her love for tennis and the three tennis players she would most want to party with.

After receiving the “Newcomer of the Year” award from the WTA Tour back in 2001, twelve years later, Dani is still solidly in the top 20. She has reached two doubles slam finals at the Australian and French Opens and is only the fifth women in history to win the mixed doubles championship at all four grand slams. Her first mixed doubles win came at the tender age of 18 and she won her most recent singles title in February at Pattaya City. Clearly, age doesn’t matter to a champion.

With the tennis world recently having seen a resurgence of the veterans on the women’s tour sweeping the grand slams, it is perhaps Dani’s turn for her own singles title-winning two weeks at a slam. Only time will tell, but in the meantime, enjoy the video below as she answers questions about her most memorable moment on court, her love and dedication to tennis and the three players she most wants to party with. Hint: one is Swiss, one is Polish and one is Danish!

Prince Tennis Creditors Listed – IMG, Sharapova, The Bryans, and more…
Written by: Staff on 9th May 2012

Prince’s bankruptcy filing last week didn’t spare much of the tennis industry, with dozens of players, coaches, consultants, media and other tennis business being listed as creditors

Primary among them was Price’s once primary endorsee, Maria Sharapova, who opted out of her lifetime endorsement deal with Prince in December 2010 after complaining to her camp that the frame she was using was causing pain in her surgically repaired right shoulder.

Prince tried to convince Sharapova to stay with the company and even threatened to sue her, but later let her walk. She eventually signed a slightly less lucrative five-year contract with HEAD, which is in the range of $2 million per annum.

The Sports Business Journal reported that about two dozen players have endorsement contracts with Prince, which listed liabilities of between $50 million and $100 million.

Prince and its debt have been acquired by Authentic Brands Group, which is headed by turnaround specialist James Salter.

Prince’s tennis unit recorded $59 million in sales in 2011, accounting for 83% of the company’s revenue, but it has admittedly seen its market share decline.

Lagardère’s John Tobias told the SBJ that Prince had been late with payments in the past, but in the first quarter of this year paid up.

The company told him that his clients can expect to continue receiving their rackets as part of their deals, but did not mention whether endorsement fees would continue to be paid. Top doubles player Bob and Mike Bryan, as well as their father Wayne, are part of Tobias stable and are listed as Prince creditors.

Other notable players are listed as creditors include Daniela Hantuchova, Mona Barthel , Shahar Peer, Lisa Raymond, Gael Monfils, Viktor Troicki, Alex Bogomolov and Juan Carlos Ferrero.

The biggest creditor overall amongst companies is to be IMG, which is owed $273,090. Risk Point Consulting, which insures athlete endorsement deals, is owed $152,500.

Media outlets ESPN, Inside Tennis, Tennis Magazine and Tennis Channel are listed as creditors, as are organizations such as the USTA, the Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis and Education, the Junior Orange Bowl Committee and Kalamazoo College USTA National Championships.

Consultants Doug MacCurdy and Steve Solomon are named, as is former player Stan Smith and Paul Annacone, the coach of Roger Federer.

I wonder what impact this could have on Daniela. I also find the bit about Shazza interesting, especially given the parallels with Daniela's shoulder problems.

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.

I'm not positive but I think when a player is in the top 20 they have to include " 2 " premier 5 tourneys along with slams and premier mandatory tounaments. Daniela probable is using Cincy(qtrs) and lost her Italian Open Pts for the second one. She did not play Tokyo and bombed in Toronto\Montreal, and Doha. The Italian Open was played one week earlier last year.

Hantuchova is looking forward to the doubles at Wimbledon

After the match against Stosur wrote Dominica and Daniela Hantuchova, who is recovering from a foot injury.

"Daniela my congratulations to the results and wrote that it is already looking forward to our cooperation in doubles at Wimbledon, so I hope it does not change. We wanted to try the Olympic double already at Roland Garros, which, unfortunately for her injury did not work. I that it now manages. "

Truer words have never been spoken, Eddy. (Good Lord, she even let her picture be taken with me :!: ) I have said that Daniela's as misrepresented and unfairly maligned as any pro athlete maybe ever, but it does seem that in the last couple of years, more recognition of who she really is has come forth (Heart Award, praise for her charitable calendars, even this ribbon cutting thing the other day). A slam and/or an Olympic medal is not only what she deserves, but it would open up a lot more eyes as to her true nature. Let's Go, Daniela!

Hantuchova: I can’t wait to be on court again
2012/06/13
World No.24 Daniela Hantuchova spoke to tennishead about her return from injury, Grand Slam hopes and Olympic dreams

Daniela Hantuchova took her WTA bow on the grass of Birmingham back in 1999 when she played in her first ever qualifying tournament at this level. This week the Slovakian is back at the Edgbaston Priory Club for the AEGON Classic and the 29-year-old is hoping for some valuable playing time ahead of Wimbledon after a two-month absence from the game with an injury to her left foot.

A finalist here last year, Hantuchova is glad to be back on her favourite surface and the former Wimbledon quarter-finalist is looking ahead to the extended grass-court season.

First off, how is your foot and what are your thoughts on being back?
Yeah, I mean I haven’t played for five weeks. It was kind of tough to be away in the middle of the season but obviously there was nothing I could have done about it. I did all I could to be ready for the grass courts. I did really good rehab and now I just can’t wait to be on the court again.

Does it give you encouragement that many of the Grand Slam winners over the last two years have been from your generation?
Yes definitely, that’s what keeps me going! It is very nice to see all the girls in my age doing well. I think that’s when the experience kicks in and they use that very well. And, you know, in our age group I think the most important thing is staying healthy. I think if we can do that then we definitely have the tennis and the experience to do well in the tournaments.

What are your thoughts on the Olympics and the extended grass-court season?
Yeah, definitely for me it is a very special tournament. The Olympics were the reason I started to play tennis so it’s going to be very exciting and the fact that it’s going to be on grass makes it even more special. So, yes, it’s probably the most exciting part of my career.

Obviously there’s doubles and for the first time since 1924 mixed doubles will be played. Would you like to play in both these events and have you given any thought to who you’ll pair up with?
I would love to. I don’t know the criteria of how it works, particularly the mixed doubles because there are only 16 pairs and it’s going to be tough. But obviously winning all four Grand Slams always helps! [Hantuchova is only the third person in the open era to win a career Grand Slam of mixed doubles titles]. If we qualify in doubles obviously I will play with [Dominika] Cibulkova and I think we have our chances there. We are going to play Wimbledon [for the first time] and we have played in Fed Cup once a few years ago. We were supposed to play in Paris as well but unfortunately I couldn’t.

In terms of mixed doubles will you be looking to play with Filip Polasek?
Yes, or [Michal] Mertinak. I think one of them, which would be very very cool. But like I said, first we have to qualify.

Hantuchova kicks off her grass-court campaign today at the AEGON Classic. The No.3 seed, who received a bye in the first round, will take on Melinda Czink in round two after the Hungarian saw off Anna Tatishvili of Georgia yesterday.

This dismays me quite a bit. One of the glorious things about the calendars of the last two years is not just that it was done strictly for charity, but that the pictures were tasteful and many of them clever. I remembered an interview touching on the subject of nude photo shoots, and looked it up and re-read it. Daniela's quote: "Say, if followed a charitable purpose. It would be something really interesting, so I knew my picture to help. If it was done tastefully and be charitable sense, so maybe so. Otherwise, definitely not." I hope with all my heart that a charity received from Daniela whatever fee ESPN The Magazine paid her, and that it becomes public knowledge. I could handle this much better if that's the case.

Let's Go, Daniela!
