Glad you were there, eddy, and glad that I can gather from your report that Daniela played all right and competed and isn't washed up. Sadly, everything you have been posting about her ranking has come to pass. Yet my sense is that no retirement announcement is forthcoming. Would really enjoy a good doubles run. I still see a future there if Dani wants to go that route and can connect with the right partner. At least we didn't have to deal with Serena and that probable shellacking. |

I actually didn't stay to the end as it was too upsetting when she went 2-0 down in the 2nd set. I hoped to come back but half an hour later it was over :/ However judging by her words on wta website it is heart warming to hear how she is the happiest she has ever been and is appreciating everything even more. She vows to continue and even says she is more determined than ever. Gotta love her! |

Even with this late start, looks like no need to worry about darkness. First set to Brengle/Maria 6-1in 25 minutes. Dani & Donna lost all 4 of their service games. They showed some spunk early in the second, leading 2-1 after converting a 5th BP chance and then holding to 3-1. But a couple of glittering chances (2 BP at 3-1, broken in next game after recovering from 0-40 to a GP) went blooey, and they lost the last 5 games. Sigh. |

Daniela and Vekic lost 6-2 6-3 in doubles. The frustrating thing is that Brengle/Maria aren't that good but they got balls back and didn't make very many errors. Daniela & Vekic dictated most of the rallies but couldn't finish the point off while Vekic made a lot of errors, especially at the net and her volleys were very erratic. Daniela played pretty well and had some nice touches but it wasn't enough. |

Worst doubles match I've seen in a long time...no communication between them...and Vekic made so many errors...Daniela was going into the net on shots that had nothing on them...same as McHale match, they made errors while opponents just got the ball back #frustrated |

Wouldn't you know. Serena had to come up with one of her comebacks to beat McHale after dropping a 1st set tiebreaker. Hard to say exactly how to take that. |

I wonder how Daniela's singles performance compared to her doubles performance. McHale played well against Serena so if she played at a similar level against Daniela then you can see how she'd beat Daniela and she'd beaten Daniela in the past. Daniela was okay in doubles but she seemed to lack power and Brengle/Maria were absolutely thrashed in the next round. Daniela vapourised Shvedova in Mallorca and Shvedova's beaten Svitolina and Lisicki at Wimbledon. |
