Daniela starts with Mrytille Georges of France, the winner plays either Rodionova or Sorribes Tormo.

We'll just see how Daniela does here. She had some decent wins in Katowice and Stuttgart that should give her a bit of confidence, especially beating Osaka. I have to favour her against Georges but Georges still has to be respected. The first set is going to be so important as all of Daniela's wins this year have come when she's won the first set and she always won in straight sets while she's always lost after losing the first set this year and her last comeback win was in Istanbul in July.

It is going to be different with the tournament moving from Marrakech to Rabat so things will be completely different but Daniela should still be good enough to beat Georges and the match will be on Centre Court so it will feel good for Daniela that it's on the main court for her birthday rather than a small outside court.

Nice to see that Dani got seeded. It's a step forward. It would be wondrous for our gal to gain career win #550 on her birthday. ;)

:wav: :wav: A really good win by Daniela, her 550th career win on her 33rd birthday, there aren't too many players that have won as many matches or who are still playing at that age, it just shows how much Daniela loves to play and she gives herself a great present.

The crucial games were the fourth and fifth games of the second set where Daniela came back from 40-0 down on her serve to hold and then the next game where she broke Georges and then when she broke in an epic game on her 4th BP after saving 5 GPs to put her 3-2 up after being 2-0 down. The next two games were close but Daniela won them and she served it out to 0.

Daniela plays Sorribes Tormo who won in straight sets.

Excellent synopsis, Chungwit. I didn't go into details because it was Saturday morning here and I was wanting to sleep in some more! Also since the numbers weren't anything to write home about. Daniela won because of her heart and spirit, converting almost all of the big points and shaking off some missed opportunities. (9 DF''s from George's didn't hurt).

In the end, only one number mattered: 550!. On to 600!

This is disappointing. Daniela was 4-0 up in the first set and had a point to go 5-0 up on her serve but she couldn't convert and lost the next four games. She was 5-4 up and then went 6-5 down and had to break to get into the tiebreak but Sorribes Tormo dominated the tiebreak and Daniela lost 4/5 points on serve in the tiebreak. Daniela really should have won the first set and if she had she'd have had a great chance of winning the match, but she lost it and Sorribeso Trmo was in control in the second set

Daniela won only 26% of her second serve points in the match and she didn't hold at all in the second set. Daniela had a last chance when she broke to get back on serve at 3-2 in the second set but she got broken and didn't win another game.

Still, Daniela won on her birthday to get her 550th win.

This match was played while I was attending church. I tried to be a good boy and wait until church was finished. Didn't work. And now I see what a frustration it was. Daniela won 10 straight games from yesterday's 2nd set through the 4-0 start today. That's what she used to do to what then was lesser competition. And before we could get excited about the possibility that she just might be getting to that stage again, blam. Nails scratching the chalkboard. :|

Daniela's playing doubles with Marina Erakovic but they've got a tough draw as they play second seeds Anastasia & Arina Rodionova in the first round. The winners play either Dulgheru/Parmentier or Pigossi/Sorribes Tormo so there could be the chance for revenge.

Daniela's doubles match is third on Court 3, not before 2pm.

Sorribes Tormo lost 7-5 in the third to Krunic but she's in as a lucky loser and plays Ons Jabeur, it really shows what could have been for Daniela.

I don't know whether Daniela or Erakovic have withdrawn but the Rodionovas have won by walkover. Erakovic had a fairly easy win against Mitu in 1hr 16 minutes earlier so that's unlikely to have taken too much out of her.

Sorribes Tormo absolutely crushed Jabeur 6-0 6-2.

The WTA doubles draw sheet states that Daniela withdrew with a right elbow injury.
