1st round vs Lisicki. Pretty much the worst draw possible. I predict Lisicki will win the tournament.

Lisicki's a really tough opener and she's been playing very well lately although she did lose in the first round of Linz to Knapp. Daniela's got nothing to lose and if she gets past Lisicki then she'd play a qualifier and the seed she'd be scheduled to face would be Lepchenko, so if Daniela does beat Lisicki then she's got a good chance to for a run. If Daniela beats Lisicki then this would be her best win of 2014. We'll see how fit Daniela is and what she can do here, the fact she's playing here indicates that her knee injury couldn't have been that bad.

Daniela absolutely thrashed Lisicki the last time they played in Luxembourg.

Very glad Dani's back. Can't see much happening here, though. All year long she has been overpowered by anyone with a strong serve, and here's the lass who has the all-time record for fastest serve. Daniela did beat her at this venue, but I can't get the 2011 Birmingham final out of my mind. Daniela was playing brilliantly at the time and Sabine was ranked 100 because she had just returned after a long absence due to injury, yet she just blew our gal away. My only hope is that it's an omen that the tournament director is named Daniella!

Daniela's not playing tomorrow. She's not playing doubles either which indicates she's probably isn't fully fit or at least doesn't want to overplay coming back from injury. I thought she may have played as Zahlalova Strycova's there too and the doubles field is pretty weak. Barbora's not entered doubles either.

Daniela's the third match on Centre Court tomorrow, play starts at 10 am but the second match is not before 12 pm.

I couldn't watch the match but seems like first set was very close and 2nd set all of Daniela's service games were tight but none went her way...so 0-6 in the 2nd set was harsh.

This sucks. I just got the last game and it went to deuce but Lisicki won it. Apparently Daniela was 5-3 up in the first set and playing really well but her level dropped while Lisicki started playing better and she won the last nine games.

This is so typical of this season with Daniela playing really well for a set and matching a top player but she's unable to clinch the set and then she's got nothing left for the rest of the match.

Sums up the season

The live score I was checking had the first set even at 3, 4 and 5, so if that was correct, then at least Daniela didn't lose a 5-3 lead.
There is good news. Brisbane is only 83 days away, and it doesn't begin until Jan. 5, unlike recent years where it started in the last day or two of December. None of us want poor Dani to have to play another match that counts in this wretched year of 2014, and thankfully, she won't have to.

Seriously, thank God the season's over. Worst year in Daniela's career by a country mile.

That's if Daniela is continuing to play professional next season...she looked like she had enough today to be honest.

If Lisicki won the last 9 games, then Daniela would have been 5-4 up, so the first set would have gone on serve until Daniela was broken at 5 all then Lisicki would serve it out and race through the second set.

Pannici was there so it seems that Daniela's back with him. The constant churn of coaches can't be helping Daniela, she seems to change coaches every couple of months.

I've always felt that Daniela would try to keep going until the Rio Olympics and I think she'll keep going for as long as she can as she enjoys playing. She's very resilient and determined and she's come back from some devastating blows in the past, playing tennis is her passion and not a job so she'll do her best to keep playing.
She is playing her toughest ever opponent in Father Time.
