Daniela's got Paula Ormachea in the first round, Ormaechea is ranked 96. The winner plays Cibulkova or Muguruza.

I don't know about doubles as that's not been drawn yet but Lucic-Baroni is playing qualifying here.

Again taking on the role of worrywart, I have been so not looking forward to Daniela's first round match at Stanford since WTT started. Even though it ended up a successful venture for Dani, and even though she went up against and did well against her WTT opponents, a large majority of which are better than Paula, I still worry. Can't shake the feeling that should she lose, there's a part of the tennis population that will be catcalling....you know, she should never have played WTT/only goes to show she doesn't know how to pace herself or manage her career, that kind of thing. And now she goes in off the downer of the bageling by Olga in the most important match she had for the Aviators. Now watch this be a nighttime match that doesn't start until after midnight in New York, so I'll even have more time to fret over it. OK, that's off my chest; let me be wrong about this,

Let's Go, Daniela!

Daniela's not playing tomorrow.

She's playing doubles with Arantxa Parra Santonja again and they start against Gavrilova & Xu.

What did I tell you? Daniela plays the second of the night doubleheader after Venus opens at 10:10 or so New York time. Daniela won't take the court until midnight. Heaven help me. Please let it be worth the wait.

Let's Go, Daniela!

With the cooperation of Venus, Daniela starts play before midnight in New York. She serves first. Here we go……
0-1 Oh, boy, Daniela broken at 30.
0-2 Paula holds to 15.
1-2 Daniela holds to 0.
2-2 Daniela breaks at deuce.
3-2 Daniela holds to 0.
(It is now past midnight here. This now becomes the 1 year anniversary of Daniela's only double bagel win at Carlsbad.)
3-3 Paula holds to 15.
4-3 Daniela holds to 15. (Won 11 straight points on serve up till 40-0 in this game.)
5-3 Daniela breaks at 30.
6-3 Oh, joy! Daniela holds to 15.
2nd set
1-0 Daniela breaks to 15.
2-0 Daniela holds to 15.
2-1 Paula holds to 30.
2-2 Daniela broken at 15.
2-3 Paula holds from deuce.
3-3 Daniela holds to 15.
3-4 Paula holds from deuce.
4-4 Daniela holds to 0.
5-4 Daniela breaks at 30. Serving for match.
6-4 Daniela holds to 0! :P
So my fears were, in the immortal words of the Clash, fundamentallytardaded!
This is career win #525 for Dani. Not easy, but she was clearly better, had some dominant moments (like winning the last 9 points on serve), and by my count was 4-4 on break points. She won 8 of her 10 service games, and in them, won 32-36 points, and the 4 points Paula got all came after Dani was up 40-love.
Daniela gets Muguruza next, as she took Domi the defender out in three sets. Dani and Arantxa are first up on Court 6 today, shortly after 1:30 Stanford time. (BTW, Lucic won today with Pliskova as her partner.)
Stats: Daniela was indeed 4-4 on break points. She was 31-47 1st serves in (66%), and won 25 of those points (81%). 10-16 2nd serve points won. 1 ace, 1 DF. Paula must be another young bomber. 6 aces, 5 DF's. Dani won 63 points, Paula 43.
Daniela defends her points from the double bagel (she dropped 45 points from Stanford last year, when it was played a week earlier, which is why she fell to #33 this week. Chance to gain points now.)
Good night, everybody!

Let's Go, Daniela!

There was stream makes me feel worse. I stayed up to watch Daniela on Tennis Channel becasue they were covering about 4 hours. what did they do.....Venus live then instantly a rerun of Venus's match WHILE Daniela match was live. ggrrrrr

Livescorehunter had it but was the stanford official stream, not commentary and fixed camera. It had stream for all courts so you can watch doubles too later today.

A good win by Daniela. She was solid and raised her level at the end of each set. She served well at the end of each set and she broke Ormaechea in her last service game of each set and then served it out fairly easily in the next game. It does seem like getting a solid run of games in WTT has helped Daniela and she's built up a nice rhythm there, although Ormaechea is someone that Daniela should beat she's been upset quite a few times this season by players that she should have beaten so to get a solid straight sets against a potentially tricky opponent is good.

Daniela's the only Slovak to win as both Cibulkova & Rybarikova lost in the first round as defending champion, so she's flying the flag.

Thanks for the live report, Alex.

That's absurd. Anyone east of the Mississippi will have stayed up past midnight to watch so would want to watch another match rather than the match they've just seen. Are Americans that parochial or do American TV executives think Americans are that parochial?
