Nice road trip between July 13-19, huh? At least Daniela will see some American airports that she normally doesn't. What few big name active players there are in WTT pick and choose to avert some of this insane travel. The WTT is promoting Dani as San Diego's star, and her name is featured in schedule lists for every match. I do hope she will handle this sensibly, but being who she is, I fear she'll try to play every match. This can be a fun experience and helpful to her game and even her confidence if she wins a match or two over top players. Just hope it doesn't become overwhelming and hazardous to her health.

isn't she going to play other tournaments to add points on her ranking?

Not for these 2-3 weeks. Not too much going on anyhow, so Dani's not missing that much. Barring injury, I'm sure she'll be entered for the Bank of the West tourney, the next one that really matters. And, oddly enough, she has a chance to move up 2 spots to #32 this week while not playing.

Austin features Bartoli and Zvonereva. Vera appears to be just for doubles, so it may be Daniela against Bartoli.

Well, I sure was excited about Daniela's WTT debut until it occurred to me that I had misread the result board badly. She just lost to Zvonareva 5-3. Sorry if anyone saw my erroneous post.
Now, one of the cool things about this format is the chance for instant redemption/revenge. Playing doubles with Kveta Peschke, Dani belted Vera and Eva Hrdinova 5-2.
This is fun. Normally Daniela would be out of action for nearly a month. Now, I get to root for her almost every night. But it would be best if she paces herself and skips a match or two.
Her doubles win busted the match open, and the Aviators won 23-11.

It would have been nice for Daniela to have won the singles, especially as that was the only match San Diego lost, but she got revenge in the doubles and San Diego won the tie. It seemed that Zvonareva served well while Daniela's second serve was vulnerable.

Peschke's been playing with Srebotnik this year but if Daniela hits it off with her then this could be a new doubles partnership and one of the Bryan brothers would be a good partner for mixed doubles.

Urgh u missed it. How did Daniela play against Vera? Hoping I can catch tonight's match. Can anyone explain why the court is multicolored?!

Love her outfit!

That's the way we do things in America. Years ago some suit thought that would add to the atmosphere and bring in more fans. Yeah, OK. Would love to poll an audience at one of the matches and see if even 2 people decided to go because they liked the colorful court!

How bizarre! Did Daniela play ok? Sounds like doubles was quite good. Is tonight's streamed? They are home again.

Daniela should play Taylor Townsend tonight. That'll be an interesting match as Townsend is one of the top young prospects and she beat Cornet at Roland Garros.

(SAN DIEGO) WTT Tonight:
Singles……Daniela got clocked by Townsend 5-2.
Doubles……Get down tonight! Dani and Kveta rolled to a 4-0 lead and cruised, 5-1, over Townsend and Huber. One would surmise that oddsmakers may well have favored Townsend/Huber, but this was a beat down. The only game Daniela/Kveta even fell behind in was the one they lost.
After flirting with gagging big time, the San Diego men's doubles team won the super tiebreak. Final score: San Diego 20, Philadelphia 19.
I may have noted this before, bear with me, you might like this. When World Team Tennis was created in the early 1970's, Billie Jean King was quite involved in the venture. She was a part owner of the Philadelphia franchise, which then as now were nicknamed Freedoms. Elton John was a big fan of King (go figure). And that was the basis for his big hit Philadelphia Freedom.
