Barty withdrew with Injury so Sharapova gets bye to quarters where she'll play Kanepi.

Losing doubles is no bad thing. 2014 starts in Sydney so letsr forget about this week! Was a training experience. At least Daniela can enjoy New Years Day.

FFS.

This has almost certainly cost Daniela a seeding at the Australian Open but she doesn't have anything to defend in Sydney or Melbourne so any sort of run will boost her ranking.

I didn't expect anything from the doubles after the draw when Daniela & Sabine got the top seeds but I feel that they'd have had a good chance against most of the other teams. We'll see if this is a team going forward as Daniela & Sabine have played together a couple of times in the past and I feel they could be good, but it's been a while since Daniela was in a good doubles team, the partnership with Agnieszka Radwanska was the last really good team she was in. Whenever she had a good partner last year it never lasted due to injury or withdrawal. We'll see who she plays with in Sydney and the Australian Open.

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.

The killer yesterday was that Daniela and Sabine lost at least 4 deciding points, 3 in the 2nd, any one of them which could have turned things in their favor. :wall: :wall: We all have had that frustrating moment when Daniela is defeated and the clock says 2or 3AM and we roll our eyes and think "seriously, I stayed up this late just to see that happen!"

Oh well. Happy New Year, everyone. May it indeed be one for Daniela and all of us that love her.

Let's Go, Daniela!

Did you watch the doubles Alex? Did they gel well together it was very close against top doubles team..

EDIT One positive is that Daniela will be seeded for AO. This is due to Bartoli retiring and Kirilenko being injured and thankfully opponents around Daniela's ranking also losing early.

Daniela will either be 31st seed if Zakapalova doesn't reach Shenzhen final or 32nd seed if she does. So hurrah for that! This is the first time Daniela is seeded for a grand slam since Wimbledon 2012 I think. Let's hope the draw is kind..

First though a good run in Sydney would be nice..:)

No, eddy. I followed it on LiveScorehunter (which drove my wife nuts). A fellow Facebook poster wrote that the #1 seeds made several uncanny saves on what looked like winners. I guess that's why they're the #1 seeds.
I feared Daniela would have her ranking and AO seed chance devastated, so your news is really neat.

All the reports were that Srebotnik & Peschke played really well and made quite a few no fucking way plays when Daniela & Sabine looked to have won the point. Against pretty much any of the other teams there Daniela & Sabine would probably have won. They had the toughest draw otherwise they'd have been able to put in a decent run.

I'd be happy for Daniela & Sabine to play together and be a team, at least in Australia, as I'm sure they'll be competitive but we'll see what happens. Lisicki has a better serve than Hingis if nothing else.

It's fantastic that Daniela can still be seeded for the Australian Open. A seeding will give her a much better chance of a run.

And she didn't.
It's rare that Dani gets taken out in the first round when she's got points to defend, then gets so many breaks from other results. And this time it saves her AO seed. I'm taking this as a very good sign. :P

Let's Go, Daniela!
