That final was absolutely incredible with so many swings of momentum, drama, incredible shotmaking and supreme feats of endurance from both guys. It seemed that Nole had it won in the fourth, especially when he had 3BPS at 4-3 but Rafa played amazingly to win that game and then again at 5-3 in the tiebreak but he made a few errors and Rafa took it. Rafa looked like he had it won at 4-2 in the final set with Nole looking absolutely done but he somehow broke back and then prevailed in a war of mental and physical attrition. What a match.

Federer just beat Nadal in the Indian Wells semi-final. Federer played some great tennis and bossed a lot of rallies while Nadal struggled. It was pretty dramatic at the end with the rain delay at match point but Federer served an ace to win it. It's Federer's first final at Indian Wells since 2006 which is a bit of a surprise.

Isner beat Djokovic in the other semi. Isner did play very well although the critical moment was when Djokovic served for the first set at 5-4 but got a bit sloppy and got broken and Isner won the match on two tiebreaks. Isner's got good touch for a big man.

I hope Federer can win. IMO he deserves it.

Fernando Gonzalez lost to Nicolas Mahut last night and this was his last tournament as a professional so he's retired. I Iiked Gonzo, so I'll miss him.

Nadal gave Djokovic a beasting to win his 8th consecutive Monte Carlo title, that's an Open Era reord for most consecutive wins at a tournament.

Roger Federer won his match today so he's won more Grand Slam matches than anyone.

So the only record that's missing is being number 1 for the most total weeks. How many are missing? One or two?

Off the top of my head, Sampras was no.1 for 287 weeks and Federer was no.1 for 286 weeks. Federer would have the record but he lost early at Indian Wells and Miami after having MPs in 2010 and he also lost early in Rome. If he'd won those matches, he'd have been no. 1 for a few more weeks.

Great win for Mathieu, especially after having the MPs saved but he kept going and won it.

What is is with Isner and marathon matches against Frenchmen?

Nadal thrashed Istomin and Murray came back against Niemenen but it looks like it could be a pyrrhic victory given how bad his back is.

Djokovic had to come from two sets down to beat Seppi and Federer had to come from a set down to beat Goffin. Goffin did play very well in the first two sets and hit a lot of excellent winners but couldn't quite sustain it while Federer was able to raise his level, it's still a great run by Goffin who got in as a lucky loser.

That was a great match between Djokovic and Tsonga, Tsonga did so well to get back into it after Djokovic won the first set easily and he really should have won. That's one of these defeats that's absolutely crushing but on 3 of the 4 MPs Djokovic played a great point and didn't give Tsonga a chance, but Tsonga had a good chance on the third MP but put it in the net. Then there was a tight tiebreak but when Djokovic won it, there was a massive letdown for Tsonga and the crowd went out of it and Djokovic pushed home his advantage in the fifth. It would have been great for Tsonga to win as he played such exciting tennis but massive credit to Djokovic for his skill and nerve in adversity. It probably didn't help Tsonga that the drizzle slowed the court and the balls down and made it harder for Tsonga to hit through Djokovic.
Federer came from 2-0 down to beat Del Potro.
