nah. Venus barely won her previous match. I don't see her reaching the final.Ditto, Venus is not a good claycourter, her game is sorely inhibited on the slowest surface and she has no plan B to make it more effective. Today she barely escaped struggling Chakvetadze. That said Rome is the only red clay tournament where she has any chances at all to do something, since the surface is quite fast in comparison to for example Roland Garros courts.

Venus won convincingly in Acapulco, and I can definately see her beating Radwanska to reach the semi's here. And after Safina's struggles against Zheng today, I think she has a good shot at reaching the final. Jankovic, Azarenka or Kuznetsova would be tough opponants there, but Venus, as always, has a chance.

"Rome 2009 - Wednesday Night Session"

- Very good point from Chakvetadze, where she plays drop-shot, lob, and then another drop-shot, leaving Venus literally on the floor.

Venus has just thrashed Radwanska 6-1 6-2, and now just one win from the final. She'll play Safina, who once again struggled through; coming from a set and a break down.
Kuznetsova will play Azarenka in the other semi-final.

Sharapova announced her comeback to the tour. She will play in Warsaw next week

Somehow I hope she finds her old form again. I don't really like her as a person, but in contrast to Safina or Jankovic she brought fire to the WTA tour. Hopefully she playes in RG.

Yes I agree. I'm not a huge fan but its good to have her on the tour as shes such a big personality and has a nice rivalry with some of the top players such as Serena. I'm really looking forward to the hardcourt season in America where the tour will have Clijsters back playing, and most likely Sharapova too. It will bring a bit of life back into the tour and end this Jankovic-Dementieva-Zvonareva domination that has existed particularly outside the slams, in tournaments where the Williams' sisters haven't played or have been below their best.

I agree, that's more Serena

I see Daniela in this one:

though I would prefer something new as this one is too much like the rest of her outfits.

Sharapova played well for someone who hasn't played for 9 months. She made some DFs but expected. Her groundstrokes and returns were good. It's amazing how she can be back after such an injury. She is such a winner. Shame I am not a fan.

It's probably a bit easier for a power player to comeback after a long layoff than for a technique/skill player whose timing will be a little of and might need to bit of time to get their rhythm back or someone that relies on speed or retrieving who'll have some initial fitness and stamina issues. Shazza did play well but her game's fairly basic, though very effective, as she relies mainly on big groundtrokes from the baseline and her physical power to win so it's a little easier for her to get back into her rhythm.

Davenport came back to beat Jankovic and Daniela in Bali and Clijsters won the Indian Wells and Miami double so a player with a lot of power and big groundstrokes can be successful right away.

Thumbnails are better for multiple picture posts, they take up less space.

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.

Christina: That dress that you said was 'more Serena' is the exact dress that Serena is wearing for Roland Garros ;)
