So no surprises as Serena won again.

Is it me, or is the WTA tour just full of patterns!?!? I'm sure it's all coincidence, but I can't help but find the following patterns, very interesting:

- Serena wins AO in odd years: 03, 05, 07, 09
- Sharapova wins Indian Wells and Linz in 2006; Daniela wins Indian Wells and Linz in 2007; Ivanovic wins Indian Wells and Linz in 2008
- Daniela wins Indian Wells 5 years after her first win; and gets to another Grand Slam QF 5 years after last reaching it
- Ivanovic's career basically takes off after winning Berlin in 2007, resulting in a French Open final and another slam SF in 2007, and then the AO Final in 2008; Safina's career basically takes off after winning Berlin in 2008, resulting in a French Open final and another slam SF in 2008, and then reaches the AO Final in 2009

I know it's all coincidence, but it's still quite interesting that these patterns have happened. Can anyone add anything else??

That a really great observations, but as you said, only coinsidence.

very good observation, hadn't thought of any of those except the obvious one of Serena winning in odd years.

What a final. Less than an hour. Bit of a let down. Well Serena played well something 20+ winners and only 7 UEs, but it was more like watching a practice session that a final. Safina wasn't playing well at all. And some fist-pumping and come ons only happened towards the end. No real intensity at all.
The Aus Open Final in 07 was also Serena losing only 3 games, but if I remember correctly, the intensity was much higher.
I think it was a bad final because it was over before it really started, not so much tennis-wise as Serena came in focused and hit well.
I felt bad for Safina when it was over. I think of course she was sad about losing, but I think she had never expected such a beat down and that is what made her sad. The speech was cute.
During the ceremony, before Safina's speech, it looked to me as if Serena tried to cheer Safina.

well what a disappointing final, full credit to Serena though (even though im not a fan and she does get on my nerves) she just played too well and totally overwhelmed Dinara. Love the stat about Serena on the odd years, thats really weird that its happened for so long now, maybe she should skip the open next year and come back in 2011?

Safina has launched her official website. It looks good. I hate how all the other players have better websites than Danka:

Daniela's website has a good layout, but with only one person moderating it, once every two weeks. Oh, and the forum has zero moderation. We need to find the people responsible for this and assault them.

Yeah, I agree. Daniela's website does have a nice layout and is aesthetically pleasing, but that's it.

- No regular updates.
- Some incorrect information.
- Lack of moderated boards (at last I checked, 95% of the topics were porn related).

It would be nice to have some journal entries, more multimedia, videos, pictures, etc. but I get all that here :)
It's just a shame that her official name is attached to that website. She deserves better!

I think Ana Ivanovic's site (with regular news updates) is one of the better player websites.

I don't go there so often, but I think she often pops in and write, and there are a lot of pictures and news, but it is not in-depth. Personally I think Henin's is really really good. The next best site I've visited is Sharapova's.
Wozniacki's is rather small, but on the plus side, she writes there several times a week. Talks about matches, how she viewed them etc, answers people's questions.
Azarenka's is really bad too. After she won Brisbane they didn't update it. I wrote them an angry email and the next day they updated it a little bit, mentioning that she won.

Mauresmo has taken the title in Paris! Defeating an in-form Elena Dementieva 7-6[7] 2-6 6-4. The first set tie-break seemed very crucial, as if Dementieva had won it she would have probably won the match in straight sets.
A great win for Amelie, and a great week overall, defeating Radwanska, Jankovic and Dementieva over the course of three days, and Errani and Niculescu prior to that. Her volleying was superb, particularly against Radwanska and Jankovic, and there is no reason why she cannot be a threat in Dubai next week (where she could meet Dementieva once again in the third round) and the mandatory tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami.
This could well be the tournament that Mauresmo needed to kick-start her career once again.

Good for Momo, now all we need is for Daniela to win a tournament and the tennis order will be restored.

The commentators mentioned Mauresmo actually considering retirement.

Interesting first round result...

Urszula Radwanska (the younger sister) has defeated Agnieszka Radwanska in straight sets, 6-4 6-3. Agnieszka will not be happy about this one I'm sure!

I'm really happy that Mauresmo won in Paris as this is a win she really needed after having such a hard couple of years. She played so well to win it and you could see how much it meant to her afterwards. Amelie's always been a great player to watch because of her great shotmaking and skill so it's nice to see her back to her best.
I always prefer the cavaliers to the roundheads, so when a cavalier wins, it's always sweet.

Radwanska beat Daniela in the Sydney second round and has had terrible results since, Vaidisova beat Daniela in the Sydney second round last year and she's had terrible results since.

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.
