Well after a nervy start, winning just 3 of the first 15 points, and going down 3-0, Anne has got herself into this first set, winning her second service game. Her first serve percentage certainly needs to improve, just 42% at present.
Marion now leads 4-1, after a tight service hold. Its not the best start for the Brit, but I would imagine she is very nervous. After all this is not the type of match she plays week in week out.

Keothavong holds serve after saving a break point. A good effort, but still a break down. Marion leads 4-2.
The Frenchwomen holds comfortably, now a 5-2 lead. I think this first set is over. Im just glad to see Anne fighting and holding on to her service games. Hopefully the second set will be more competitive from the start and Anne can take this match to three sets.
Anne holds from 0-30 and forces Marion to serve it out. Marion leads 5-3.
First set complete, Marion takes it 6-3. Anne missed out on a break-point opportunity in the last game of the set. Hopefully she can start well in the second and stay positive.

Bartoli def Keothavong 6-3 1-6 7-5

Keothavong led in the final set with a double break at 4-1, but couldn't close it, so Bartoli came back. There was just to much pressure on Keothavong..
but i would have loved her to win, cause i don't like Bartoli :retard:

A real shame she lost from a winning position because the win would have propelled her into the world's top 70. As it is she may still creep into the world's top 75.
A good competitive match none-the-less and Anne demonstrated that she can compete with top-30 players.
An excellent week overall, with Anne winning four straight matches against the likes of Poutchek and Mirza (WTA 33).
Hopefully Anne can move on from this match and improve further in order to go deeper into these tournaments in the future.
I would like to see her enter the qualifying tournaments for Los Angeles and Montreal too because, on this week's performance, I think she would have a good chance of making the main draws.

A great effort it has to be said by Anne, despite Bartoli's erratic form this season she is still a good player and for Anne to push her close, very close, is a credit too her. She has to take a lot of positives from this and like you said asj001 hopefully she will enter qualifying for more of the US Open Series events cause with her ranking ever increasing she has a good chance of making more main draws, increasing her ranking further, and who knows maybe she will be getting into main draws on her ranking sooner rather than later. One thing is for sure, it will be nice to see a british girl at the US open for a change lol

Britain's number 5 Melanie South will attempt to qualify for the East West Bank Classic in Los Angeles this weekend.

She has a relatively good draw, seeded 6 in the qualifying event:

1R - Katsarina Zheltova[WC] 7-6[4] 4-6 6-4
2R - Eva Hrdinova[10] 6-1 6-3

Hopefully she can make her way through to the main draw and gain some ranking points and confidence.

Katie O'Brien has got into the main draw of the Banka Koper Slovenia Open in Portoroz, a Tier IV event on the WTA tour.

She has a tough draw, facing a seed in the opening round:

1R - Tsvetana Pironkova[5] 7-6[6] 4-6 6-2
2R - Vera Dushevina 6-3 6-2
QF - Caroline Wozniacki[3]
SF - Maria Kirilenko[1]
F - Katarina Srebotnik[2]

I am not expecting a brilliant run from Katie, especially since she is surrounded by good clay court players.

Portoroz is a hard court event, nevertheless, its still a tough draw

Melanie South is now one match away from the Main Draw of LA. Melanie, seeded 6th, won a tight match against Belorussian wild card Zheltova 7-6(4) 4-6 6-4

Next Up is the 10th seed Eva Hrdinova who won her first round match a lot more convincingly against American Alexandra Podkolzina 6-3 6-4 and will be a tough test for South

Keothavong has been handed a reasonable draw at the East West Bank Classic in Los Angeles.
Sha faces American Jill Craybas in round 1:

1R - Jill Craybas 6-3 6-2
2R - Vera Zvonareva[5]
3R - Nadia Petrova[9]
QF - Jelena Jankovic[1]
SF - Dinara Safina[4]
F - Serena Williams[2]

A second round finish will be a good performance for Anne, who is only just starting to get direct entry into these high-tier tournaments.

Mel South crashed out of the qualifiers for LA quite convincingly last night, and cant really say i was a surprised considering that, something i only found out after i posted last night, that the person she scraped past in the 1st round, was a college player without a world ranking
