I think the 'difficulty' the USTA faced was that they didn't want to declare the incident as 'major' (like the outburst in 2009), because that would have probably affected Serena's tournament appearances for the rest of this year and next year since she was already on a probation. Certainly some pressure on Daniela this week. She's the top seed and has a good draw, and should really win through to the final. Anything less than a semi-final showing would be poor.

Amanmuradova has beaten Paszek in straight sets. That just about sums up Paszek's inconsistency on the tour. So if Daniela beats Parmentier today, she will play Amanmuradova in round 2.

There's doubt over whether the first day of the tournament will be able to go ahead as planned due to public transport being out until Monday afternoon. Daniela could end up playing Wednesday.

Really good draw for Daniela. Kuznetsova has been in poor form and lost to McHale yesterday (although McHale did beat Wozniacki last week in Cincy). Parmentier is a nice opener, and should be a comfortable win for Daniela. Paszek could be very tricky in the second round; it depends which Tamira show...

The way the USTA do the draw seems a little dubious. They hand the media and everyone also at the ceremony a draw with all the spots already filled except the seeded spots. Then they get a couple of famous faces to draw out the seeds into the remaining places. Edit: Apparently Tennis Australia do it...
