Guys, whats danka's current coach situation? I saw she's now with a Swedish guy who trained Tommy Haas. What happened to Portas? Martin said to look in older threads but I havent seen any info around... Sorry if its out of place to ask here... :) Martin is referring to the Paris tournament thread w...

It appears that Daniela is continuing to work with Thomas Hogstedt. The coaching situation has certainly been intriguing over the past few months! Anyway I checked his history and he did a tremendous job with Tommy Haas from 2006-7-Tommy won 4 titles, made the SF of the AO and the QF of the US Open,...

Don't know if this is the right place to post this, but it should be noted that Chris Eaton beat James Ward in the Davis Cup playoff tie by winning the final set 21-19 in a mere 6 hours 40 minutes. Best match that no-one will ever see!

She used to come into the net all the time in 2002,and was very adept up there. If she wants to incorporate more volleying into her singles game, more power to her!

This was another disappointing tournament in an extended series of them for Daniela. Her two wins against weak opposition were not the kind that suggest real optimism for the future (unlike the win last week v. Makarova). And certainly losing to a mediocre player like Razzano is another underwhelmi...

Daniela is still incredibly mentally frail. Failed to convert a BP at 2-1* and then didn't win another game. Still I think its asking a lot for Daniela to come back from the trauma of the wretched 2008 season and play with confidence and verve again,it will take time to recover. Chin up Danka-your f...

Interesting service stats today. 74% first serves in(liking that!)and 64 % points won behind the second serve and yet she got broken 3 times. I can only assume that Daniela had too much afternoon tea and therefore had a very sluggish start!

Great job Danka! You may not be 100% tennis-wise yet but it's so good to see you fighting through your matches again. I believe you can beat Razzano with your present game-best of luck!

One of these days Daniela is going to find a way to win a set without shredding my nerves!

I used to play-I was a lefty with a serve that might charitably be described as "popgun". Unfortunately I'm disabled now,so I'm confined to watching the game on TV and computer.

Looking back,I was too hard on Daniela. I just want her to do well so badly!

It's a bit unfair to downgrade Daniela's serve just because she wasn't playing top-notch returners-they can't all be a Dementieva or Jankovic! Besides Schnyder is a brilliant albeit inconsistent player, and I've seen Vaidisova pick apart Mauresmo's serve on more than one occasion. There are no excuse...

As for the indoor season, that's where her serve regressed the most I would say,Huh?Either you've got extremely high standards martin or you're not remembering these tournaments properly. Granted I didn't see any of Stuttgart( I was on holiday) and she might have served utter rubbish there, but at Luxembourg she made Bartoli look like a complete numpty with her serve(10 aces,no double faults) and served excellently at Linz-made Dulko's life a misery with her kick serve, got out of jail against Bondarenko with her serve when her groundstrokes went haywire, served very solidly in the last two sets against Vaidisova(saved a MP with an excellent first serve) and served well against Schnyder in the final, winning the crucial game in the second set with an ace out wide.2nd serve was ultimate crap during the whole year. Can't disagree with you there. And her serving against Serena at Wimbledon and at the US Open against Vakulenko was shameful. I do my best to block those matches from my memory!

I believe Daniela's serve and return are even better than in 2007, that's why I can overlook much, even several defeats. Bold statement there,I remember Daniela serving very well in 2007:14 aces against Harkleroad at the AO,consistently at 170-180 kph in Indian Wells(a major reason she won the titl...

Two key elements of Daniela's game are improving, in a long term that's very positive. I don't mind her losing some meaningless match if I see improvements. I suppose it depends on whether you see the glass as being half-full or half-empty. I agree that her service and movement are so much improved...
